VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

IT'S WHAT POWERS

IMALIVE

We hope to train and certify over 1,000 volunteers to launch 2010. Volunteers can complete the training, certification and volunteer shifts from anywhere they have reliable Internet service.

The first step toward becoming a volunteer and helping people at risk of suicide is to make sure you are equipped, healthy and in a position to give of yourself without hurting yourself in the process. That will insure a longer duration of volunteer support and you remaining a part of the solution. Becoming a volunteer requires a serious investment of time and has a financial cost associated.

What qualifications must I meet to become a volunteer?

• A genuine desire and willingness to help people in need
• At least 18 years old (16 with parents notarized consent)
• Must have reliable Internet access
• Must complete a minimum of 50 hours training and a series of tests and screenings.
• Must be willing to commit to responding four hours a week for one year. Or can commit to responding eight hours a week for six months.

How soon can I start my volunteer training?

We are in a beta testing phase of the volunteer training program. We hope to begin training Summer 2010.

How much does the training cost?

There is a $250 cost associated with training and certification to become a volunteer.

Do I need prior experience or a formal education?

Although prior experience or a clinical education can be helpful, neither is required to become a volunteer. The IMAlive training gives volunteers the knowledge of risk factors, how to ask the hard questions about suicide and how to lead someone through a suicide crisis.
